Commercial Sliding Doors and their Various Designs

Commercial doors are always important, providing access to a property, making it secure, and making it more aesthetically pleasing – something that is particularly important if clients or customers visit the premises. Many commercial doors are sliding doors, that might be used to allow access to the main part of the building, or other areas like storage facilities or warehouses. Many buildings and headquarters tend to have offices and commercial spaces all in one – these commercial spaces might be used for storing stock, for keeping equipment used by the business, for holding other important goods, or for storing vehicles. In this case, a property might have many different types of doors like entrance doors and personnel doors, as well as sliding doors. All doors are important and will take some consideration to ensure that they are the right ones and will serve the correct purpose in the everyday running of the building.

Even in the category of sliding doors, there are various types of doors on the market. Some are electric, some are manual, some are top hung, some work on rollers. These are some of the features that commercial sliding doors can come with:

  • Top hung or bottom rolling. There are various considerations here; the choice will depend on the size and weight of the door, as well as the environment. Some businesses may prefer top hung doors because they don’t want rollers, which could collect dirt or be a trip hazard – however some bottom rolling doors don’t have a floor track.
  • Manual or electric. If sliding doors are used for regular access, they will most often be automatic. If they are used less frequently and it is not a major inconvenience to open them manually, this can be a cheaper option for businesses.
  • Glazing. Many roller door designs can be glazed if desired by the client. They can have partial glazing, or they can have larger expanses of glazing, to the point that they can be almost fully glazed if required. Equally, doors can be a solid panel if no glazing is wanted or needed.

In addition to glazing, there are other aesthetic elements to consider for sliding doors. Some will come with highly advanced features such as a V groove joint, which means that screws are not visible. This is a design that makes for a modern appearance and will update the appearance of the door. The colour is also a key consideration and various RAL colours are available. Some businesses choose doors, fixtures and fittings in their company’s colours, and they may also be branded with their logos if required.

The door material is often steel, with smooth sheet steel surfaces for the leaf, or a textured appearance. This is an aesthetic consideration as well as one about security and practicality, as different materials have different levels of strength and stability. Bespoke door designs are available as well as sliding doors in standard sizes where this is required. Once installed, doors will need general maintenance to keep them in good condition and maintain all their features.
